1. The kit

The kit is the biggest single cost. A complete kit should include everything to go three-pedal: clutch pedal assembly and hydraulic line, gated shifter, shift cables, the gearbox shift selector housing and linkage, the manual shift forks and rails, a wiring harness and hardware. Check what’s included before comparing prices, since a cheaper kit that leaves you sourcing discontinued parts can end up costing more.

Our R8 kit is about 95% genuine Audi OEM parts. The other 5% are small pieces Audi no longer makes or sells, which we supply so the kit arrives complete.

2. Installation

You have three routes:

  • DIY: no labour cost, but you need a lift, a full tool set and time. It’s a bolt-in job with no fabrication.
  • Your local shop: labour rates vary widely, so get a fixed quote. Our free install support is available to your installer too.
  • EPOXY54 Kit + Install: $22,990 USD total in British Columbia, so the installation part works out to $9,500.

3. Coding

After the conversion, the car’s control units need to be coded for the manual gearbox, usually with VCDS. Remote coding guidance is included free with our kit. If you don’t own a VCDS interface, your installer probably does.

4. Extras to budget for

  • Clutch: if your R tronic clutch is worn, replace it during the conversion while everything is apart.
  • Fluids and consumables: brake fluid for the clutch hydraulics and gearbox oil.
  • Shipping: free on our kits worldwide, duties included. Other sellers may charge extra.

Conversion vs buying a factory manual R8

Hagerty’s Price Guide deducts about 20% from an R8’s value for an automated gearbox. On a car worth around $110,000, that’s roughly $27,500, more than our installed price. Read more in Is an Audi R8 manual conversion worth it?
