Sportshift-to-manual conversions on the V8 Vantage are rarer than Ferrari or Lamborghini conversions, so this is an overview of the main stages. The principle is the same: replace the automated shifting and clutch hardware with manual parts, then set up the electronics. We confirm fitment and the exact steps for your car before you order, and every EPOXY54 kit comes with unlimited free install support until your conversion is done right.
Step zero: confirm your gearbox
Our kit fits V8 Vantages with the original 6-speed Sportshift. It does not fit cars with the 7-speed Sportshift II, which arrived with the V8 Vantage S in 2011 and replaced the 6-speed Sportshift in the regular V8 Vantage during the 2012 model year. The N430, GT and GTS also use the 7-speed. Send us your VIN and year if you’re not sure.
Before you start
- Check the clutch. Sportshift clutches often need replacing at 20,000 to 40,000 miles. If yours is due, do it during the conversion.
- Choose your installer. An Aston Martin specialist or a very experienced home mechanic with a lift.
1. Strip the cabin
Remove the centre console trim around the Sportshift controls to make room for the manual shifter and access the shift cable route.
2. Fit the clutch pedal assembly
Sportshift cars have no clutch pedal. The kit’s clutch pedal assembly and hydraulic clutch line go in at the pedal box.
3. Fit the shifter and cables
The V8 Vantage has its engine at the front and its gearbox at the rear, joined by a torque tube. The shift cables run from the new shifter back to the rear transaxle. Route them carefully without tight bends.
4. Convert the gearbox side
At the transaxle, the Sportshift actuator is replaced with the manual shift linkage, and the clutch hydraulics are connected to the new line from the pedal. The basic gearbox stays.
5. Bleed the clutch
Fill and bleed the clutch hydraulics with the correct fluid.
6. Set up the electronics
The car’s control units need to be set up for a manual gearbox. Remote coding guidance is included free with every EPOXY54 kit; hands-on coding is quoted separately.
7. Adjust and test
Adjust the cables until every gear selects cleanly, set the clutch engagement, confirm the reverse lights work and road test.
